“When the sunscreen goes on so should the protective-eyewear.”
Did you know that 82% of parents make their children wear sunscreen
when they go outside but 32% of parents do not require their children
to wear eye protecting sunglasses? Excessive sun exposure to the
eyes can lead to cataracts and age-related macular degeneration both of
which can impair vision or cause blindness.
Here are some tips for outfitting your children with
proper sunglasses to ensure their eye health for years to come.
-Avoid buying toy sunglasses: It’s important that they have proper UV
protection and polycarbonate lenses that don’t pop out of the frames.
-Lenses should block 75% to 90% of light: If you can
see his or her eyes easily through the lenses, chances are that they
are not dark enough.
- Grey tints are best: Grey lenses absorb light
across the color spectrum equally and won’t distort colors your child
sees.

“Are you still keeping your Annual Eye Exams?”
As we get older it is easy to over look your annual eye exam that is recommended for seniors.
It is imperative that seniors keep their annual exams because of how
vulnerable they are to glaucoma, cataracts and macular
degeneration. With all three of these conditions monitoring and
early detection is of the utmost importance because they could
ultimately cause blindness.
A simple eye exam also can detect other significant
health problems. Optometrists often refer their older patients to
their primary medical doctor because signs of serious medical
conditions such as carotid artery blockage, hypertension, high
cholesterol and diabetes that can show up in a Annual Eye Exam.
“Why contact lenses?”
Did you know that there are alternatives to wearing
those pesky glasses everyday? How about getting rid of those
bifocal glasses once and for all? Or even being able to wake up
in the morning and deciding you want to be blue eyed instead of hazel?
All of these alternatives result in trying a pair of
contact lenses. Contact lenses can be worn by just about anybody
that is willing to give them a try. Even people that are told they need
to wear a bifocal. They are also beneficial to those who enjoy sports
and outdoors activities for all ages. They do require a contact fitting
and exam if you haven’t had one in the year previous. Once you
are fitted your prescription is good for a year.
We would be happy to answer any questions concerning fitting charges or
the cost of contacts. A valid glasses prescription will provide the
necessary numbers for an accurate price quote.
